What is ELE?
The Electronic Labour Exchange (ELE) is an electronic employment service that matches work to people and people to work. Using a checklist, employers create a profile of the position they need filled, identifying the skills, education and experience they are looking for. Work seekers create similar profiles, using a skills checklist to describe their skills, education and experience. The Electronic Labour Exchange uses this information to make an exact match. There are two ways to find a match. The first way is to ask the system to search for a match immediately after you have completed your profile. The second is to advertise your profile.

Our experience shows that about 80 percent of the time employers find a suitable match with their initial request, and do not need to advertise the position. Therefore, the best way for work seekers to find a match is to advertise their profile. When you advertise your profile, your information is entered into a database, which the Electronic Labour Exchange searches whenever an employer is looking for a candidate to fill a position. If a match is made, we send your profile to the employer. It is then up to the employer to contact you.

How does matching work?
The Electronic Labour Exchange (ELE) uses Canada's own world-renowned National Occupations Classification (NOC) system to match employers' skill requirements with individuals' skill sets. The NOC was developed, and is now maintained, by Human Resources Development Canada in association with employers, employees, associations, unions, institutions, provincial and territorial governments, occupational experts and individual Canadians. This effort has made it possible for us to reduce a group of 25,000 job titles and their corresponding skill sets and educational requirements to some 500 checklists.

Unlike other recruitment sites that either offer a posting and browsing system or use a keyword résumé search, the Electronic Labour Exchange's NOC classification system gives you a more precise way to find a match. All employers and work seekers do is choose an occupation from a picklist. The system then generates a checklist that lets employers select the educational and skills requirements of the job, and lets work seekers select the educational and skills sets that best describe their qualifications. Our approach allows us to make an exact match, so employers don't have to sort through hundreds of résumés to find the candidate with the right skills, and work seekers don't have to struggle to get noticed.

What makes the Electronic Labour Exchange different?
There are many "job matching" services available to you, and they are good. But we believe the Electronic Labour Exchange is better! ELE is Canada's only automatic, skills-based matching service. Employers and work seekers use the same list to define skills, education and experience, so the results are much more accurate than those of systems that rely on free text "key word" searches or other matching methods.

The Electronic Labour Exchange is also easy to use and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are no membership fees, hidden costs or small print - it's absolutely free!
